Bara Imambara - UP, India.

 ABOUT

Asaf-ud-Daula, Nawab of Awadh built the  Bara Imambara which is also known as Asfi Mosque in 1784. It is an Imambara complex in Lucknow. Bara means "big".  The building includes the large Asfi mosque, the Bhul-bhulaiya (the labyrinth), and Bowli, a step well with running water.

HISTORY

During the construction of the magnificent building in the Mughal period, many people lost their lives while working due to great deprivation that struck Uttar Pradesh. Today also the place is haunted by their spirits. The Bara Imambara also has a ‘Tehkhana’ which was used by the Britishers to lock up the Indians as prisoners. Dying voices of prisoners and their screams have also been heard oftenly by the locals and the visitors.

Visitors have also claimed to have seen mysterious images hanging around inside the premises of this glorious building. There were numerous tunnels in the Bhul-Bhulaiya. After many tunnel related incidents, the administration had to dig up many tunnels with the wall. And at the same time, those who were expected to return were buried behind the walls. Many people have lost their lives in the mosque.
